Question
hi,
my netherland dwarf rabbit dave is 8 months old and is a house rabbit. he lives inside, is not neutered and is our only pet, lately he had an eye infection and took a trip to the vets the vet checked his teeth and gave him some eye drops. its been a few weeks now and the viscous eye drops have had an on and off effect.at the moment he is getting supa rabit exel food pellets for junior and dwarf but is refusing to eat his hay. we went and purchased the most expensive hay for fussy eaters (supa forage exel)
but he's stil not interested the vet told us to starve him and see if he'll eat it. i starved him for as long as i could take it then gave him some food. he's still not interested and im sure he needs the nutrients what can i do to get him to eat the hay. i would appreciate any help you could give me thanx a lot

Answer
Hello Kevin ( my son is named Kevin )

Hay does not contain nutriants.  it is given for fiber - which is very important in a rabbits diet.  There are all kinds of things you can give for fiber. I do not know where you live - do not know what is available in your area.  Some ideas - the green leaves covering fresh corn, the green leaves from the banana tree, banana peels, corn stalks ( the plant without the corn ) any kind of hay- be that wheat, oats, barly, tree bark from any fruit tree except citrus. ( apple is their favorit ) Rabbits get bored with their diets - even tho it is the most expensive in the pet shop.  :-)
