Questioni have two drawf lop rabbits. one is 3 yrs old and one 2. They have both lived together inseparable for two years, they have shared the same hutch, same garden area- like mother and daughter,. They have played together, cleaned eachother almost never left eachothers side. Two days ago they started fighting, ripping fur out of eachother and been very aggressive. I have separated them for 24 hours and reintroduced then and the same behaviors have occurred! why might this be?
AnswerHi Andrea. I don't have much knowledge of rabbits which are housed together as my show rabbits have seperate cages. However, I would say that your rabbits have had a dissagreement about something. I have had this happen to rabbits which have been caged next to each other for months or even years. Suddenly they are pulling hair off of each others face and biting at each other through the cage wire. I always move one of the rabbits if this happens as they will continue until one of them is seriously hurt. I don't really know what to tell you to do unless you reintroduce them in an area they are not familiar with. A new cage, a new area of the house or yard, or even the garage. Change the enviornment and the attitudes should change. Just give them time to bond again before putting them back in the same place or they may pick up where they left off. Rabbits have excellent memories and hold a grudge for a long, long time. I hope this works. Pat
