Sexing rabbits

Question
Hello Samantha!
My two 2-month-old New Zealand White rabbits are doing some very strange behavior. At first, the buck starts mounting the doe but then I saw the doe mounting the buck. I am not even sure if they can mate at an age this year or if their previous owners had sexed them correctly! Is it natural for rabbits to mount each other for fun?

Answer
Well, Rabbits can start breeding in some instances as early as 3-4 months of age. If you do not want babies, you may want to separate them. It is curious behavior as of right now, but before you know it the one will be pregant, and you will have a littter of babies to take care of. Keep in mind that a NEw Zealand tends to have anywhere from 6-12 babies and sometimes more.
