Peeing in naughty places.

Question
I'm having a hell of a time with my female rex and male mini rex, the girl is about a year and a half and the boy is 2 years, both desexed, so I'm really not sure why they're so fond of peeing in certain places. They both pee on my bed, so I have to prevent them from getting on it and they pee ontop of pretty much anything that's in a corner or against the wall. If I leave clothes on the floor, it's peed on, paper; peed on, a box; peed on, towel; peed on; pillow; peed on, bag; peed on, even a hairdressing mannequin head! They're driving me insane! They use their litter box as well as peeing on everything within reach of their naughty little butts. I was wondering if there's any way to stop them and why they do it? It could be the boy who starts it, the girl has a tendency to copy other bunnies bad habits, and of course to a bunny if it smells like a toilet it is a toilet, so it coild be either or both. But yeah bunny pee in the carpet is undesireable as it's nearly impossible to remove. So, thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

Answer
Hi,

it is a tough one.  We have bunnies that do this even though we put a litterpan right where they want to mark.

Being fixed often cuts down on excessive marking but doesn't eliminate it in cases like these, obviously.  I would guess what might be going on in your case is the boy is marking something of yours (he loves you, you are his and so he marks your scent) and then the female comes by and overmarks his mark.  given he marks your bed and your clothes I'd say that's what his deal is.  The gal is trying to say this turf is mine and overmark him.

They do do this to the bunnies they love.  The male marks because he loves you.  The female marks that it's her territory.  Given it's pretty much hormonal-driven (fixed or not) you may need to limit exposure to your bed area.

Lots of good stuff gets out pee that is safe for bunnies.  Simple Solution can get out stains and odor real well.  One thing you can do is put a sacrificial towel down in the standard spot they pee in and then just change out towels every 1-2 days and do a load of bunny wash.  Many of our guys who pee in certain spots will do so on a cotton rug or towel I can swap out and wash.
