Death of my 5.5 year old dwarf agundi rabbit

Question
When I got home from work today Bun looked crooked.  She did not eat, even when offered her favorite, carrot tops. She deteriorated quickly, sinking into the corner of her cage.  5 hours later she passed away after a 30 second seizure. When I lifted her, under her she was full of worms that were about 3/4" long with a little brown splotch on them.  She also seemed to have literally caved in on one side, all wet and full of those worms.  Do you have any idea what happened to her?

Answer
Hi Joyce,

I am sorry for your loss. Is she a outdoor or house rabbit? It sounds like to me she had fly maggot infestation. This can happen in hot temps to outdoor rabbits. The flies lay there eggs on the tummy's of the bunny and then as they hatch they start to eat the bunny from the inside out cause they will penetrate the skin and start to feed from the inside. The worms you discribed are maggots and there nasty buggers. Usually once its starts there is no hope but to put them down my mom had a bunny that this happened to.
