Question
QUESTION: Hello Pam,

I have a long-hair benny for 1 year. I've fed her hay, fresh grass and a little bit pellets everyday. She is eating well, but also loves to eat some cardboard recently. I'm wondering if she needs special food anther than any short-hair rabbits?

Thank you.

ANSWER: Hi Rena,

All rabbits are pretty much the same.  They need as much good quality hay as they want and they need a diet with a variety of veggies or good quality pellets.  Some people that have angora breeds will supplement their diet with a feed that has Bromelain or Papain right in it because it helps to break down the wool that gets into the rabbit's stomach when grooming. Hay and fiber help to carry the wool away and that is why it is important to feed abundant amounts of hay.  I am not sure if you can get the feed that has these added items but a few papaya pills a week are a healthy treat and will not hurt your rabbit.

I would try not to let your rabbit eat cardboard although I have never had them eat enough to cause a problem.

I hope this helps.

QUESTION: Hi Pam,

I'm sorry for replying you so late, because I was on holiday and couldn't check my e-mail for days.

Thank you very much for your kindly answers. I'm very appreciate your help.

I just have no idea if she needs more nutrition such as protein?

Thank you.

Rena

Answer
As long as you are feeding good quality pellets she is getting everything she needs.  Just don't buy the cheap ones you get at Walmart or stores like that.  You should really be getting them from a feed supplier as their shipments come in fresh weekly and they can order them for you right from the factory.

Good luck

Pam
