Hind limb paralyisis

Question
Hi, my Rabbit just went through trauma to his back due to an infestation of maggots, due to too rich a diet. They ate through all his layers of skin execept the last one and is currently recovering. He is eating and drinking and alert but cannot move because his hind legs are not working! I am feeding him a critical care supplement the Vet gave me as well as some dandelions and greens because he wants to eat them. He is also taking enrofloxacin(antibotic).
I just don't understand why he can't use his hind legs! Does it sound like it is temporary? and why is it happening?
Thankyou,
Christine

Answer
Dear Christine,

I have never heard of hind limb paralysis or paresis resulting from fly strike.  I wonder about two possibilities:

1.  Was the bunny already having problems with his back end, and that's why he was fly struck?

2.  Did someone at the vet's office (or perhaps yourself) accidentally handle him wrong in their frenzy to get the maggots off so that he suffered a traumatic back injury?

I hope this article will help you figure out the source of the problem, and whether it can be treated:

If your vet knows about Critical Care and the benefit of greens, you probably have a good vet!  But if you need someone else to help, you can check the list here:

I hope this helps.
