I have a mini rex approx. 5yrs. He was neutered about 3 weeks ago but did very well with it. He has had 2 Stasis episodes in the 4 yrs I have had him. He is litter trained and has a nice area to play in. He gets Oxbow pellets and Timothy hay every day as well as a steady diet of herbs, kale, etc. Last week he got a little too much fruit, say berries and some carrots and his poo turned soft. I laid off the veggies and just reverted to hay. Then he quit pooing except hard small poo and began to drool excessively. I took him to the vet on Thurs. and they examined his teeth and said they look good. His drooling contiinues and he wipes at his chin with his paws. he has no discharge or anything. The vet did prescribe some antibiotice just in case it was an infection. I am distraught as he is clearly uncomfortable. The only thing I cn even imagine different is I bought some little corn cobs at Petsmart for him to chew. Perhaps a kernel is lodged in his teeth or cheek? He is still eating and is moving well. But he is unhappy. I can tell from his general expression. I love my little bun and want him to be healthy and comfortable. Since his teeth did not need attention, can you imagine what is causing this drooling and wiping? Again, the only thing I have given him different is a mini corn cob thing. It was in the rabbit section of chew things.
Thank you so very much for the work you do. I look forward to your advice.

Answer
Hi Laura,

If it is not his teeth I can't imagine what it could be.  Did the vet actually sedate him and look inside his mouth?  If not you may want to suggest that.  I suppose something could be caught in his teeth but it is more likely that it would be a small spur that they didn't see.  I really wish I had more ideas for you but I just can't think of any right now.

Good luck

Pam
