Dwarf Lop Earred Rabbit

Question
Thanks for that.  We have a very small flat and if he lived inside there wouldn't be much room for a large hutch.  We would be able to let him out each day so he would get exercise and companionship.  I'm worried that as he has a lovely hutch outside with a ladder down to a run he would miss the freedom when we're not at home (I work 18 hours a week and my girls are at school).  Could I perhaps get him a companion for outside?  I have heard that rabbits don't always get along.  Finally, could we have him in doors to play sometimes during the Summer months?  If so, I think my best option would be to keep him outside, buy him a companion, and bring them indoors to play sometimes in the Summer.

-----Question-----
We have a 14 month old dwarf lop earred which used to belong to friends (we've had him about 3 weeks).  They kept him outside most of the time and occasionally brought him indoors for a while until they couldn't stand clearing up after him.  We are keeping him outside but he loves to come indoors and play.  He doesn't chew on wires because  his front teeth were removed because they were growing backwards.  I have recently been told that I shouldn't bring him in for short periods and put him outside during the winter because it could kill him.  Something about their bodies being unable to regulate the temperature.  I'm also told we could keep him indoors during the winter and put him outside in the Summer.  I would be grateful for any advice you can give me as we love having him indoors.

Hi Deb,
If you want him inside with you, then keep him in.  When a rabbit lives outdoors,it has to be a permanent thing, and not half in, half out. Their bodies need to regulate the temperatures, and by bringing them in then out ect,..it doesn't give them a chance to do that.  Keep him in with you, especially if he's alone. I don't recommend having a rabbit live outside alone..ever..they need companionship.
as long as you keep him inside with you always,he'll adapt just fine... never bring a cold rabbit inside the house during winter as this would be disastrous for him. good luck,Elizabeth

Answer
Yes,
I think getting a companion would be a good idea. Make sure it's not another male unless they're both neutered,as males can be extremely territorial and will fight.  You can always get a female and have your male neutered..that would work. I keep my 4 females together and my boys seperate..but once I neuter the boys, they can all live together. (they live in a gazebo..lot's of room)
You can bring them inside in the summer months once in a while, but you can also play with them outside in a fenced area,so they can dig their claws into the ground and run..if you have the place for that. Otherwise inside would be fine too.
 good luck,Elizabeth
