Question
Hello!

My fiance and I adopted a new rabbit from the pound a few weeks ago. According to the papers we received, she is 9 weeks old. She is healthy, happy, and friendly. We will have her spayed when she is old enough and have a vet app next week.

I realized that terminix has sprayed a few times in the room along the baseboards that we let her run around in. The spraying stopped maybe 2 months before we adopted our rabbit. I called them up and asked them what they sprayed. Inside the room where she runs they sprayed "tempo ultra" which seems to have "cyfluthrin" as the main ingredient and maybe something called "cyano" in it as well. Near the door, where she is not allowed, they sprayed "max force roach killer gel".

She was only allowed to run in the room before I mopped the entire wood floor and baseboards thoroughly with a neutral floor cleaner, for about 10 days. We always watched her closely. She does not tend to chew on the baseboards as I have heard some rabbits do, but I am sure she had a lick or two here and there.

In my research on the net, all I could find out was that "tempo ultra" should be allowed to dry and is then safe for pets. I don't know if they take into account rabbits tendency to lick the floor and baseboards.  I have never had cats or dogs, but maybe they do this as well. I found one site that explained that "max force" is safe for pets because you would need to ingest 14 syringe fulls before becoming sick. I am less concerned about "max force" because she has not been exposed to it.

Sorry for the long post, but I was hoping to make it easier for you by doing some research first.

So my questions are:

1) Should I worry about the room now that I mopped it down?

2) Would it be safe for her to have the run of the kitchen which we do need to have sprayed for roaches. [with tempo ultra]

3) Do you think she could have been harmed from such a low and unlikely exposure?

Thanks!!!!

-Scott

Answer
Tempo Ultra is a synthetic pyrethrin.  Pytrethrins are the basic of many flea powders for rabbits.

I wouldn't let her chew or lick the area a lot, but once you have it mopped the room should be safe for her to be in.

If she has been harmed from exposure you would have already noticed, she would have started having neurological signs of distress.

Certainly I'd keep her away from the roach gel, like you have been doing.

I can't find any information about Tempo Ultra and rabbits, but if the ingredient list is correct there shouldn't be a problem.
