Bunny care?

Question
Hi, yesterday I let my daughter adopt a bunny from a woman, I was told the bunny is a rex but it seems to be only a few pounds so I am thinking it might be a mini rex. She is a five year old female (Could you tell me what the lifespan may be around?)
She is spayed also. I have never had a bunny so I have no clue what to do. I bought regular bunny food at the petstore and I was told to give her timothy hay (reading up it says to give unlimited hay to prevent hairballs?)I am allergic to the timothy hay and saw some tomothy hay little brick looking things at the store, would that be an ok substitute or does it have to be regular timothy hay? She is shedding and I was told that is normal. I dont know what kind of veggies or fruit to give her or how often. Other than that the bunny is pretty awesome, it even is litter box trained! I just dont know how to feed it. Also if you could point me to any bunny websites or helpful places or any other vital information I should know. The last thing was her nails are long and I am not sure if vetrinarians will clip them or not or if it is normal for bunnys to have long nails.
:)
Thank you for taking the time to read this and any answers you can provide.

Sasha

Answer
A really good place to start would be http://www.rabbit.org/care/new-bunny-index.html this has information for people who are new to rabbits, including diet information.

Rabbits can live 7-9 years, although there is the occasional 13 year old rabbit out there.

Are you allergic to alfalfa hay, coastal hay, orchard grass, or whatever is locally available?  Having hay is important, but the type doesn't matter as long as you can breathe and she will eat it.  The blocks are ok but are not really a substitute for real hay (which helps to keep the hairballs from forming in their stomachs).  You could check feed stores in the area to see what they sell for horses.

A vet should trim her nails, they shouldn't be more than about a inch long.  Any longer and they should be trimmed.  About every 3 months is good.

I hope that helps you out.
