Help with new bunnies!!!!

Question
I bought a little bunny on the 16th from a pet store (buck) and then 3 more on the 17th from a different place (2 bucks and 1 doe) they were all fine running around playing with each other, then the doe just stopped playing and layed there very lethargic would not eat nor drink. and bloated up, and was like that for a day; we thought it was just gas and it would go away; it didn't and she died, on Tuesday, now one of the other bucks is peeing blood and there is white stuff all over their cage (i have it narrowed down to which one i think it is) and our other buck (he is the smallest one) all he does is drink water non stop and just lay in his cage, he is not very active, and the 3rd buck is fine, as far as i can tell. I have tried to slowly introduce greens and carrots to their diet. Do you think that the female dying has to do with her being stressed?? and do you know why the other 2 are acting weird??  I just do not want all my bunnies to die, and there is not a vet in this area that deals with rabbits, any help or ideas? ( i also have stopped  giving them the veggies as much and only their food and a little bit of hay each day)

Answer
Brittany,

Separate your rabbits right away.  One if not all of them is sick.  Since you got them from 2 different sources it is impossible to tell which one came to you sick.  However since you had them housed together they probably all have the illness.

You really need to find a vet in your region.  It might be a several hour drive but there has to be one some where.  Red urine alone is not dangerous because often times the pigmentation in the urine makes it appear red in some rabbits.  However, if you are sure it is blood then this is a true emergency.

The fact that one of your rabbits has died and now you have 2 others that are sick just points me in the direction that one had a disease or illness that was contagious.  If you separate them you might have a chance of saving the one that is not sick, but with the incubation times being different for the numerous amounts of illnesses this could be it is not a certainty.

If they are babies (under 6 months old) they should generally not be given vegetables yet anyway.  Start giving them at 6 months old and give them slowly and increase them after you know they aren't going to make them sick or give them diarrhea.

This is a good resource to help you find a vet.  You should also be able to contact any veterinarian in your area and they should be able to tell you the nearest animal clinic or hospital that deals with exotic animals.  Just be prepared to make a long drive.  It will be worth it if you can save their lives.

I am sorry I can't help you more.  Without seeing them and lab tests I really have no idea what could be wrong with them.

Thanks
