Question
My rabbit has a black scabby sore on his scrotum and a raised red area with black sores on his tummy.  Each area is about the size of a pencil eraser.  How should this be treated?  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Dear Kathy,

Without seeing the lesions, it's impossible for me to know for sure what they are.  But if they look as if they could be inflamed moles (highly pigmented areas of skin), it's possbible that they could be skin cancers that should be removed by a good rabbit vet.  These should be biopsied so the vet will know what, if any treatment, would be appropriate.

Please go here:

to find a good rabbit vet in your area.  I would do this as soon as possible, since the sooner a malignant growth is removed, the better the chances for a full recovery without dangerous and/or invasive measures.

Please write back if you have any other questions.
