Sick rabbit. Help!

Question
Hi my maid slipped when she was cleaning the floor and fell on my rabbit's head (he likes to get close to people). He ended up with a bleeding nose, though it stopped already. He now barely moves (he has free run of the house), and won't eat or drink since this morning. He peed, but hasn't poop for the whole day while usually i'd find plenty already in his cage. What to do???

I took him to the vet already and they gave him this medicine (Omemox (?)) and a bit of gel (nutrigel) and that I have to handfeed him his liquified pellets and his medicine using a syringe (note: he eats only pellets and he doesn't like vegetables except broccoli). He now prefers to sit like those bunnyball where his leg doesn't show while usually he just laying sprawled on the floor. What else can I do?

Answer
Hi Lucy,

you must take him to a good rabbit vet.  Not all vets are.  Please start looking here:

www.rabbit.org/vets/vets.html

and find a House Rabbit Society-recommended vet near you.

If you can't find one nearby, you either may have to drive to one a bit away, or see if there's a local House Rabbit chapter around you, or any other rabbit rescue group around you, and ask them for vet advice on who to go to.

He has had some physical damage from what it appears. rabbits are extremely delicate with fragile bones, compared to dogs and cats.  You will have to make sure in the future he cant be in the part of the house the maid is in while there, because it is a safety issue for him and the maid.

I am telling you that he has a life-threatening condition here, as it has started to affect his nervous system, and affect his eating habits.  You must get him to a good rabbit vet or he will probably die.  He needs xrays to see what damage occurred from the maid falling on him, and he may need surgery to correct the problem, and now with him having input/output problems you will have to make sure he does not develop gut problems that can weaken and kill him.

This is why you MUST find a good rabbit vet and get him there immediately.  This is an emergency situation, you need to present it to them as such and get him in right away.  If you have to see the rabbit vet off-hours or at his/her home I would do it.
