neutering rabbits in the Philippines

Question
I want to have my 2 year old male rabbit neutered but we can't find a rabbit savvy vet in the Philippines. Would you know anyone at all here who can perform this safely? The best we got from a vet was a 7 out of 10 success/recovery rate, and we're not about to take chances with ours. Is there any chance that you could talk to our vet and teach her how to do this properly? We've been looking for help for the last 2 years and this is our last shot.

Answer
Dear Rabbit Tales,

Unfortunately, I cannot find any rabbit expert vets listed in the Phillipines, even on the lists linked here:

www.rabbit.org/vets

As more people have companion rabbits as pets, there will be more vets around the world who begin to learn their treatment, but sadly, there are no vets in the Philippines (yet) who have made those lists via recommendations from rabbit "parents."  If you DO find a good vet, please do let me know and I'll be sure that person gets listed.

At least the vet you found has some experience with rabbits.  I would recommend that this vet contact some experienced rabbit vets in the U.S. who may be able to coach him/her about anesthesia and surgical technique.

Dr. Susan Kelleher may be able to help.  Her clinic web site and contact information is here:

Your vet may also be able to join an online discussion group for veterinarians to get some help:

http://www.rabbit.org/vets/vetref.html

and find other rabbit-related veterinary resources here:

I hope this helps get you started.

Good luck!

Dana
