Question
i have a question. can Dutch rabbits survive outside in a wooden hutch, especially the extreme months in winter and summer?

I am afraid that bugs wil bite my rabbit. can this happen. can i prevent this?

And... Can i put two rabbits in a hutch ( boy and boy or girl and girl) and will they fight or be friends? My dad thinks this will be good for the winter. Two rabbits can heat up a hutch.

please answer my questions. I will get a bunny tomarow!

thanks!:)

Answer
Hello Christina

Yes any rabbits will be able to live in an outside hutch in both winter and summer seasons.

In the winter i would advice you to get some sort of hutch cover to keep your bunny warm, you can buy a waterproof hutch cover in most petshops but they can be pricey. I have so many rabbits and cages so what i use is some some old fabric such as an old duvet cover or old curtains, this will keep you bunny really warm. The main thing to do to keep your bunny warm is to add loads of shreded paper and straw.

As for the summer no covers are really needed as it will make them too hot but instead keep them in the shade, make sure they are out in a shaded run to give them somefresh air and some exercise to.

The only harmful bug that can bite your rabbit is the myxmotosis flea which is very fatal to all rabbits, therefore have your bunny jabbed every 6 months but there is still a small percent chance of your rabbit getting myxmotosis even thought he/she has had the jab.

Rabbits love company and would love a mate. Both sexes seem to fight more.eg(two boys or two girls). But if you brought them both together then this shouldn't happen. Boy and a girl bunny usually get along but if you dont want to have baby bunnies then i would advice to get them spayed or neautered.

Hope this helps, good luck
