cutting rabbit claws

Question
My rabbit needs his claws cut but I can't seem to figure out how to hold him to get this done.  I do not have anyone to help me keep a hold of him and he is kind of an aggressive bunny, he does growl at me sometimes, but I guess that is because I am stressing him out.  He has only bitten me once but that was a while back, he is not the most socialble rabbit so it is making it difficult for me to get ahold of his claws.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Melissa,

You have a few options.  You can take the bunny to the vet and have them show you how to do it, you can try to find a groomer to help you with it.  Some groomers will not have anything to do with rabbits.  If you have a vocational school in your area that has a animal science or grooming program they are usually more than willing to help out because it gives the students experience with animals they don't normally see.  If you know any responsible breeders or 4H kids that are in the rabbit program they could easily show you how.

If you bunny is squirming and you don't know how to hold him securely you really don't want to do it yourself.  Not only could you get injured but if the bunny squirms the wrong way he can break his back.  It needs to be done but it is really best if you get some assistance until you get the hang of it.

Good luck
