Question
I took my rabbit to the vet to get her nails clipped and then to my daughter's school to let the kids pet her (for easter). When I got her home and was putting her in her outside cage she urinated on me and was not using her back legs. She was actually dragging them. When I took her to school, one of the kids actually tried to grab her and when I asked the vet if he maybe hurt her he said there is no way. What do you think happened to my rabbit and do you think she will be okay in a few days?I am praying that I don't have to take her to a vet (they charge way too much)! Please help!!!!!

Answer
Dee,

If she has lost urine control and is dragging her back legs then I have little doubt she has a spinal injury.  As in humans there is no way to treat spinal chord damage.  The blame can't be placed on anyone specific.  Rabbits are squirmy little buggers and if they are trying to escape or wiggling to much then they can inflict them upon themselves.  Normally at the time of insult they will let out a high pitch scream.

I can't honestly tell you if she will be okay.  You can either watch her for a few days and see if she gets better or you can take her to the vet for x-rays.  That is about the only options I can give you.

If she does turn out to be permanently injured I have found a site with 3 stories that help you adjust to living with a disabled bunny.

I truly hope she is ok but just be prepared for the worst.

Sincerely,
