mole-like growth in ear

Question
My 6-year-old lop has grown a mole-like growth on the inside of his ear over the past few weeks.  It is about 1cm long and is barely attached at the ear.  It's pink and white (the same color as his inner ear with no additional pigment.  It's soft and bendable and it doesn't hurt him when it is touched.  My rabbit is active and is showing no signs of illness.  What are the chances that this growth is cancerous?

Answer
Dear Meredith,

This sounds more like a little papillomatous growth than a cancer.  I would be more concerned if it were pigmented.  But if you are concerned, it wouldn't hurt to have a good rabbit vet take a look:

to be sure it's nothing of concern.  It sounds as if it would be easy to remove, if the vet thinks it should come off.  Possibly with just a little local anesthesia.  Then it could be biopsied if the vet thinks there's anything unusual about it.  But bunnies get little flesh tabs like this on their ears not infrequently, and they are usually benign.

Hope this helps.
