rabbit has one slightly smaller lip, discharge from nose

Question
I bought my rabbit with a slight deformity on one side of its lip. It doesn't seem to hurt or interfere with normal eating habits but I'm concerned that black smudges (discharge perhaps?) appear from the nose right above that lip. Should I be worried?

Answer
Dear Linda,

Black discharge is a bit odd.  Nasal discharge is generally clear or whitish to yellowish from bacterial infection, if present.

I would have the bunny checked by an experienced rabbit vet:

to make sure it's nothing that needs treatment.  If the bunny is outdoors or in a dusty environment, the black could just be dirt/dust mixed with bunny snot.  Please also see:

I hope this helps.
