Question
Last night my sister and i were told there was a fox around our back yard, so we went to get the rabbits. We brought them inside and the girl bleed all over the floor and there were to little skin things. We went back to check the cage and there was one baby in there. Did we stop the process? She is not going near the baby and I'm not sure how to tell if the baby is still alive??

Answer
Hi Laura!

It sounds like you interrupted the birth process, the best thing you can do is put the mum back in her hutch and put the baby into the nest and leave well alone.

Mum will only feed baby once a day, most likely early in the morning and it is very very rare that an owner will see it happen.

Now that they baby has been handled and been left out of the nest there is a good chance that it won't survive, if you need to check on the baby, rub your hands in mum toilet area to mask your smell and handle the baby gently, if baby is stone cold and stiff them the baby has passed away, if it's pink and warm then tuck it back in the nest and leave well alone, just make sure you give mum as much as she will eat, she'll do the rest herself

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on
