QuestionHi One of my two (supposedly both female) dwarf rabbits started pulling her fur out yesterday which I took to be nesting so I moved the other one out of the cage last night. This morning there was a little movement in the straw but I haven't checked properly for any babies. When is it safe to go near either the mum and the babies and is there anything specific I should be doing. Can I put the male rabbit in the cage with the babies or will it eat them. I will have to get another home for the male as this was totally unexpected and I don't really want any more but haven't got anywhere to keep it exept a rabbit run - would it be ok in there with a small compartment made as a bed
Answerhi tracy-dont put the male back he will kill the babys.leave mum alone for a couple of days feeding as normal
after 3 days take mum out the cage and give her a titbit to eat.soil your hands on the cage litter and carefully open the nest, check and remove any dead babys recover the nest and then put mum back .
leave alone let her get on with it.
at7-10 days the babys eyes will open and then they start to roam about.
one important thing-if the doe accidently pulls a baby out the nest she will not put it back you will have to do this.
