Companion for rabbit.

Question
Hello.  Boris is our 6-7 month old un-neutered male lion-head - and is a house rabbit (he has never gone outside due to the tame foxes that wonder through our garden).

So far he has not shown too many of the signs that un-neutered males seem to show - he doesn't spray, he's been a LITTLE bit aggressive and a bit moody - but other than that he's the same as always.

We are thinking of getting him a companion (I don't like leaving him on his own during the work day even though he has a massive den and has constant attention when we are at home) - and will obviously get him neutered before we do that.  But I am really worried about getting him neutered - I know it is a relatively safe proceedure these day but he is a bit of a drama queen and has suffered from a couple bouts of gut stasis so I am worried that the operation could set this off again.  Also - will his personality change much?  He is very lively, stubborn, naughty little chap, and I don't want this to change.

Also - if we do get another rabbit, I would like to get a young one again (female this time) - but is it easier to bond rabbits of a similar age or does it work with babies as well?

Thank you!

Answer
hi Helen having him neutered should not be a problem but getting him to bond with another rabbit is going to be very hard and he may attack and fight it.
he will think someone is taking over his space and so he will fight like mad to keep it safe.
in my opinion he is OK on his own and a newcomer will cause you lots of problems.
Dave.
