Question -
i found some baby rabbits in my back yard and i think that the mother is taking care of them but the thing is that there is no nest and it is very hot and dry outside so me and my father put two poles and a garbage can lid on top of them to create some shade(its not touching any of them) and we take it off at night so the mother comes back is that a good idea or should we remove it and another thing i noticed that their body/stomachs twitch a little is that normal and if it isnt what should i do?

Possibly they don't need help, it depends on what breed of rabbit they are.  I believe jackrabbits build nests above ground, but basically all other rabbits nest underground.

You could check out this info at http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/orphan.html.  If their tummies are fat, they are getting fed.  Mother rabbits feed only once a day.

I don't think the shade is going to make any difference to her, although the babies probably appreciate it!

There isn't anything you can do, other than chase the cats away.

Remember that in the wild, rabbits are at the bottom of the food chain.

I am very familiar with the care of indoor, domestic rabbits.  I think your best bet at this point is to go to http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm and see if you can contact a wildlife rehabilitator in your area who can give you better information about the care of wild rabbits.
