QuestionHello,
We are looking to buy a floppy eared bunny from a particular seller. We have not seen it, but are told that it has a bald spot on its back. Should we not even consider this rabbit because of potential health problems, or does this happen often and we shouldn't worry about it? It will be a gift for my 9 yr. old daughter.
AnswerDear Holly,
There are so many issues to bring up from your note that I'll take them one by one. First, the bald spot:

It's not likely to be a serious problem, but only a good rabbit vet should make that judgement and prescribe proper treatment.
Second, I would NOT buy from a breeder when so many abandoned rabbits need loving homes. There are lops, dwarves, bunnies of every color, size and temperament waiting to be loved. And if you adopt from the House Rabbit Society or an affiliate, the bunny will already be spayed/neutered and have had a full wellness check. You can find your local group here:

It's better to get a mature bunny, since a baby's personality can change drastically when puberty hits. Older rabbits, already spayed/neutered, are also easier to litterbox train. For complete information on what to expect, please read:

And before you buy a bunny for your nine year old daughter, be SURE to read the following:

Hope this helps.
