Are Paint Chips & Carpet Fibers Dangerous?

Question
Hello,
I have a lovely neutered 5 month old lionhead who I frequently catch eating paint chips and fibers from my rug. I can't really tell if he's eating the fibers but I'm concerned this could affect his digestive system. Am I correct in being concerned. His appetite, water intake and stools are normal.

Thank You.

Answer
Is he actually eating them, or just chewing on them and spitting them out?  The paint chips would be bad if they have lead in them.  That would only happen if you live in an old house or someone used lead-based paint.  Eating the rug could be an issue, if it all balls up in his stomach.

See if when you catch him doing it you can take the fibers out of his mouth.  Also put something like a grass mat rug over when he chews to see if he will chew it instead.
