Question
My rabbit is a male and the lady I got him from said he can be shown.  The only problem is that he weighs 4 pounds and 1/10th of na ounce as of when I weiged him tonight.  He is almost 9 months old and I am just curious if I can take him to an uncoming shows.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Molly

Is this the mini rex rabbit you just asked about?

Bucks have a max weight limit of 4 1/4 pounds.  As long as he is close to that there is nothing wrong with showing him.  There is no judge that I know that will disqualify a rabbit for being an ounce over.  Just make sure to get him plenty of exercise daily and make sure he gets as much hay as he wants.  For a mini rex he shouldn't be eating more than 1/2 cup of pellets per day.  If you are doing all of this and he is 9 months old already it is doubtful that he will grow any bigger.  Just keep in mind that a good diet and exercise should keep him within the limits, however it has happened that rabbits that are 9 months old can still grow.

Good luck if you decide to show.  It is so much fun.  The good thing is that if he does get DQ'd for being overweight the judge will still give you other comments on what to look for.

If you need anything else please let me know
