Arsenic poisening

Question
Hi I am not sure if you can help but I am hoping, we have two female pet rabbits who are three years old and have been very healthy. Today we went out and one of the rabbits has lost fur symetrically on both sides of its neck and either side of its tail and has severely dropped weight. Not sure how long the weight loss has been happening as you couldn,t tell with all the fur it had, it cannot be longer that two and half days as that was the last time we picked them up and no issues then. We took the rabbit straight to the vet who was basically stumped as to what it might be. I suggested maybe arsenic poisening as we have some treated pine on the ground near the hutch and we have had a fair amount of rain meaning it could have leached into the soil where the rabbits eat. Other than these two symptoms the rabbit is eating and still quite energetic. I have tried to look up syptoms of arsenic poisoning to no avail. I will be ringing a specialist rabbit clinic in my home state tommorow but any info you could provide would be great. The other rabbit is not sick at all Thanks Melissa

Answer
Yikes!  I am so sorry Melissa but I am stumped as well.  I do not have any idea what the symptoms of arsenic poison would be.  The very best thing to do is to get them to the specialist as soon as possible.  You can try Ms. Dana Krempels but honestly I wouldn't wait.  I would call the specialist right away and see if you can get the bunny in for an exam.

I am so sorry that I can't help you.
