Question
Hello, my rabbit has had babies about 10 days ago, and today we fear that she had contact with the male agian. If we get her fixed now, we are afraid that she will stop feeding the 10 day old babies, but were not set for more baby rabbits, and were not sure how long we have.We looked at an article and it said we have around 33 days... is this true, and what exactly do we hve to?

                            thanks,
                               new rabbit owner

Answer
The absolute earliest babies can be away from their mother is 5 weeks old. However, this has been said to give the babies problems in the future. 6 weeks is the minimum age I would recommend weaning. So yes, you have around 33-34 days for the earliest they can be weaned. If she is pregnant, though, she may start acting aggressively toward the babies in a couple weeks. If this happens, remove the babies. Bring her to the babies once a day (and hold her gently but firmly so she won't be able to attach them) to nurse. Be sure the babies get plenty of fresh grass hay. The weaning period is one of the most likely times for rabbits to have digestive problems, so the hay is very important to keep everything on track. It provides plenty of fibre, which is very important in the digestive tract.
