Question
my rabbit has a bladder stone and we are thinking of having the surgey. my question is will he be ok and return to normal . And will he get more stones

Answer
Dear Sheila,

No surgery is 100% risk free. But if the stones are causing him great discomfort and chronic problems, then it may be worth the risk to give him a pain-free life.  I had a bunny with massive stones.  He had them surgically removed, and after a week of discomfort during recovery, he was back to his old, normal self.  He never got stones again.

This doesn't mean stones can't recur.  Some rabbits may have a congenital predisposition to form stones.  But there is also a chance they won't recur.

The thing to be sure of is that the vet doing the surgery is very experienced with rabbits, and has had a lot of successful surgeries.  That will give your pal the best chance of a good outcome.

Hope this helps.
