Questionmy rabbits are approx 13 weeks old..i have noticed recently that they have a lot of excess cecal pellets...and i mean a lot!
they are fed timothy hay unlimited and a bit of brocolli, grass and dandelion everyday. i also feed them a rabbit mix everyday...i am unable to find just plain rabbit pellets so have to feed the mix that the pet shop has. i have been feeding this since they were six weeks old.
should i stop the mix and greens for a while and just give them hay...will they not be hungry if i do this???
they are otherwise healthy and full of fun its just the excess cecal pellets that worry me...i dont want them to go hungry but i dont want them to get ill...they live in huge cages outside.
AnswerDear Chloe,
Rabbits getting a rich diet sometimes won't eat their cecotropes. In your case, I'd say it was the pellet mix, not the greens that are the problem.
Pellet mixes containing seeds, dried treats, etc. are VERY unhealthy for a rabbit. Provide unlimited, fresh timothy hay, plenty of fresh greens, and a plain pellet daily, and the bunnies will be much better off for it. Please see:

Get them off the junk food now, before it's too late. :(
You can get Oxbow pellets online at: www.oxbowhay.com if you can't find good pellets locally.
Hope that helps!
