QuestionI have a buck (pancake) who is one and a half. He has these scab things on him. there is not any lumps under the scabs. His mother had lumps with scabs on them. these are not normally scabs from a scratch they remind me of a mushroom with a stem and a top. I also have 4 of his offspring (7 weeks old) and they have them too. None of my other rabbits have this, so I think it may be hereditary. Pancake and his doe have been in the same pens together for a year. She does not have them. I would like to know what they are, so I know whether to keep breeding him or not. If you would like a picture I could send one.
AnswerDear Tammy,
Unless this is mange, I can't really tell from the description what it might be. Please see:
www.bio.miami.edu/hare/furloss.html
and see if this matches what you see. If not, then please do send a picture to me at dana@miami.edu
Or use the function (recently added) at AllExperts to add a picture to your note here. (I've never tried it, but a few people have recently attached pictures to their questions, maybe by writing their message in html and adding a link that way.)
I hope I can help you figure out what this is.
Dana
