Question
Hi, I have two lionhead rabbits around 3-4 months old, they had a litter 1 month ago(unexpected for us, we didn't know she was pregnant because the pet store told us they were both male and to keep the together.) We separated the father and the mother and put the mother in her own cage with her babies. But, sadly none of the babies made it. Ever since the first litter we have kept them separated. Now exactly 1 month later she had another litter(the same amount 4) We were wondering how this was possible if they didn't have contact since the first birth. Is there a pregnancy frequency with lionheads? How many times do they become pregnant? Please answer me I am very freaked out about it!

     Thanks,

Answer
She must have simply gotten pregnant again just before or just after she had the first litter of babies. Rabbits can be pregnant with two different litters at once, and even if she were not, one month is the pregnancy period of rabbits. So if she were re-bred the same day she had the first babies, having the next litter one month later is completely normal.
