Urine Scalding

Question
Okay, so this is a part two to my earlier question about Finchey, our five year old bunny whom is partially paralysed.  I know now after reading that he is suffering from urine scalding due to his paralysis.  I read about dry bathing and that i should NOT use baby shampoo, got that.  How can I keep my bunny dry and keep this urine scalding from happening.  I find wet bathing works well for our rabbit, but would the dry bathing method be better?  I also am sure you are going to suggest a trip to the vet to find out what is happening, that is not possible at this time, unfortunately.  Luckily, he does not seem to be in any pain.  But, I need all the help I can get with his wetness issue.  I just want to make sure he is comfortable through this, permanent or not.  Thanks again for your time.

Answer
Dear Lisa,

You could try the dry bath procedure.  But we also find that providing a bed of artificial fleece from PalacePet (www.palacepet.com) is *fantastic* for wicking away the pee and keeping bunny dry.

Back massage and straightening the legs will also help keep the urethra aligned better, and help keep him from peeing on himself.

Some people modify feminine hygiene pads and/or baby diapers so that they fit on the bunny's bum and absorb moisture.  There are many different possibilities, and you may have to be inventive to find the option that's best for you and Finchey.

I hope this helps!
