Question
i have 2 2 yr old rats and 1 3yr old rat. they are all girls and live in the same cage until recently. one of my 2yr old rats, fluff, wasnt able to walk or eat or drink. weve been hand-feeding her and hand-watering her. when she tries to get up she has to drag herself around with her 2 front paws because yesturday i found i giant, about 1 inch, tumor looking thing near her butt. she tries to turn around and look at it but she just tips over! also, all her life her stomach was incredibly huge and she would also run to her food. now, her stomach seems way smaller and squishy. wait and one more thing. it kind of looks like her eyes are bleeding because there is dry blood underneath her eyes-its hard to tell though because she is albino. my other 2 yr old rat, lulu, we think is internally bleeding or something. when i visited her this morning her tail, and ear was soaked in blood.  she also had blood dried on her so i put her in her own cage and then decided to put fluff in her own cage too. now we have 3 rats in 3 different cages and 2 of them seem to be sick- we just dont know what to do...

Answer

For starters, is the 2 year old with the tumor looking thing; is this protruding from her vaginal opening or under the skin? Also, her eyes are not bleeding.  She has what is called porphyrin. Please check out my site and see the photos and description of what it is.

The blood by the tail makes me wonder if there is not a uterine prolapse.

I cant do anything without seeing her. I would not move the rats apart, though, as this will stress them out terribly.Nothing they have would be contagious and if it was, they already exposed each other anyhow so let them be happy and not stressed as this will cause more stress which lowers their immune system.

You asked what to do and the only real solution is to seek help from a vet that has experience with rats.  I will be happy to give you names of good vets if you let me know your location.
