Piggy not acting like his self

Question
I have a adult male piggy that usual stays in his igloo most of the time. But today he has been staying in one corner of his cage. He will eat if I hand feed him put will not go to his food. I also got him to drink some water.I can not take him to the vet right now. Any advice on what might be wrong would help. Thank you

Answer
Hi Angela,

It sounds like your piggie might be sick. Not eating is not a good sign at all, and sitting in the corner of the cage and not running for cover as he might usually do often signals that something is wrong.

You need a vet's advice ASAP. Continue to hand feed him hay, plain pellets and veggies, and if necessary syringe him some water every 2-4 hours. If you can't get to a vet then at least ring one. Your vet may be able to advise you on what to do until you can physically get there for proper treatment.

Also search www.guinealynx.info for guinea pig health matters. Please remember Guinea Lynx is not intended to replace a professional veterinarian diagnosis. It will simply help you understand what *might* be wrong and it can help you determine the urgency of the situation.
