Mating guinea pigs

Question
I have two guinea pigs. a Male and a Female. They are about 11 or 12 weeks old. They are trying to mate, i am pretty sure my female is in heat. The male is trying to enter her, but she runs. If she is in heat why does she run? She squirts nasty white stuff too!! what is that?

Answer
Hi Jessica

This is one of the very interesting things in the world of guinea pigs.

Your female is running because she doesnt want the male to be her mate. Believe it or not, the female is squirting the male with urine (sometimes white in colour) to try and tell him she is not interested.

If the male continues to pursue the female you might even find she gets aggressive with the male. However, the male will generally not respond.

I hope that answers your question. Before I go, think very carefully about breeding as there are so many unwanted piggies out there and wouldnt recommend it unless you already have homes for any potential babies.
