New brother problems

Question
Hi Kat,
We have had Cavies for about (6) yrs now, but have finally run into a problem we'd like some advise on!!
CJ (our 2 1/2 yr old Abby) was recently bereived when his "brother" since 2 1/2 mnths (a hairless) died suddenly, at 5 1/2 yrs old however.
We adopted another Abby because he was pining so bad, missing his friend.
The first two weeks went wonderfully, but sincr last Saturday night something went awfully wrong with the "new" guy lunging at CJ & Cj teeth rattling and running off.
Needless to say we seperated them at this time but every evening try to re-introduce them under close supervision on the floor--Plenty of room--same results so far!!
Here's the Question--If we were to only have the new piggy neuterered, would that have a chance of fixing this social interaction, assuming that we kept them apart for a few weeks in the mean while??
Hope you can offer some good advise,
Roy & Bernice

Answer
Hello Roy and Bernice,

I'm sorry you lost CJ's "brother". No, unfortunantly having him neutered will change nothing except the fact that he can no longer reproduce. Unlike some other animals, neutering doesn't change a Guinea Pig's behavior at all. Your best bet is to leave them in separate cages near each other so they can still see and talk to each other and that way they will both have the needed social interaction but won't be able to harm each other. It sounds like it's unlikely these 2 will ever be able to live together safely in the same cage. Good luck and I'm sorry things aren't working out so well between them.
