Question
We have a one year old GP. She is giving GP food daily, but she doesn't like it. She prefers carrots, crackers, sometimes apple. I noticed this week that she is very thin. She seems to be a little less active than usual, but she is eating and drinking. I will call the vet, but do you have any ideas what might be wrong with her?
Her name is Squeaks, she's one year old, she's female, she doesn't have any cage mates. We use care fresh pet bedding, we change her bedding weekly.

Answer
Hello Korey Ellen,

She sounds like she may be malnourished. Crackers really aren't good for them and she probably shouldn't be given those but the real problem lies in her not liking her pellets. They are an important part of her diet because they contain the nutrients she needs. I would contact the vet and discuss a diet plan for her that includes all of the things she needs. A balanced diet can be created with veggies and hay, but you should get your vet's advice so the plan is good for your particular piggy. Another option is daily syringe feedings of crushed moistened pellets. You should also have the vet make certain there isn't a medical reason for her not eating her pellets and her weight loss. Good luck!
