Answer
Hey Amanda.
Right don't panic, theres not much you need to do for a pregnant hamster!
She needs to have lots of protein(found in nuts, and a little bit of cheese) this stops her from eating her babies from lack of protein in the body.
she needs to be handled gently and be away from loud noises and disturbances. serian hamsters are pregnant for 16 days. she needs to be cleaned out 3 days before she gives birth, she needs lots of bedding and it must not be fluff. tissue paper (such as kitchen roll) is best. after cleaning her out leave her alone until 5 days after the babies are born.
She'll give birth at late night or early morning. you'll hear tiny squeaks or creaking coming from the nest, this is a sure sign they are here! she might leave them laying about the cage, she'll pick them up later.Do not touch them at all until they are 2 weeks at the least, or she might eat them.its ok to handle her again for short times after 5 days.
She needs to have extra food from 5 days after the babies are born, becuase thats when they start eating solid food too. i usually give mine porridge oats.:)
when they start wandering about the cage you need to move the water bottle down so they can reach it, and handle them from about 2 weeks. at 21 days they can come away from their mum and be put into a communal cage, until they are about 28 days when they need to go into same sex cages. at four weeks they can go to new homes!
i think thats all you need to know,
there is more info on my site, www.angelfire.com/jazz/hamsters
just in case i've missed anything.
 hope this helps!
