1 year old hamster

My one year old long haired hamster seems lonely and was wondering if I could put another hamster in with her..would that be a good idea.

Hi Holly,

Your hamster is a Syrian so it is striclty solitary, which means it cannot be housed with another hamster at all - she is not lonley at all and she will fight with another hamster and they will end up killing each other.

Please do not get another hamster - if you think she is lonely then play with her more and get her out more - she will enjoy your company far more than the company of another hamster!

Even if your hamster was a dwarf and not a Syrian, it would still not be possible to give her another hamster to live with - she would be way too old by now and used to living on her own.
