Answer
Hey Ashton,
Bar chewing is the most annoying thing in the world, especially at night when you are sleeping, i would know...i've had five hamsters in my room at night before!
Sadly there is no complete cure for chewing becuase hamsters have a need to gnaw to keep their teeth down. :(
but here are a few suggestions that work quite well.
If you take her out in the day more, she get used to being awake during the day, and sleep at night, it will take some time, but if you try and wake her up and get her out at the same point every day, she'll soon get to know that she can be awake at this time, and then she will sleep at night.
Give her other things to gnaw on too, peices of wood(fruit wood is best), nuts are perfect (if you can get hold of hazelnuts they are best) and i've heard these funny little colour things called hamsteroids are good too.look about in your local pet shop.
Distraction toys are good,a wheel if she hasn't got on already. some wheels that rattle can be solved by peices of card to make washers, and squeaky wheels can be solved by vegetable oil. there are also things called boredom breakers, these trap food inside the toy and hamsters spend time chewing on them to get the food out. well worth it!
i've also heard that lemon juice works, if you rub it on the bars, but i've never tried it, so try not to end up with a sticky hamster! Look in your pet shop again, they might even have something in there.
i hope at least one of these helps, i also know people who have gone as far as to buy a glass tank for the hamster to live in, but i just sleep with ear plugs if its bad! :oD
