Red nose??

Question
My winter white dwarf hamster has developed a very red nose and has become much less tolerant of handling. He sleeps often and is scared easily. Is the red nose a symptom of a disease or something else?

Thanks!!

Answer
Hello! Poor little hamster with a red nose. Yeah, he's not feeling well. There could be a number of things, allergies or sickness. If you are using pine or ceder bedding that causes allergies as well as lung and liver disease. Switch to aspen bedding. He may also have a cold too. The only way to treat a hamster cold is to take him to the vet for antibiotics so it won't develop into something worse like a respiratory disease. Good luck on your furry friend and keep me posted of anything further. :-)
