Gerbil baby question

Question
I bought a gerbil last year. The people at the pet store told me that it was a male gerbil. This year I bought another gerbil and the people told me that it was a male also. Well, I put them in the same cage. They did good with each other.
One day I went to check on the gerbils and I saw two babies! I found out that my new gerbil was the mom. But my older gerbil wasn't the father.
Days later They opened their eyes and grew fur. Now I don't know if the male will harm the babies. I NEED HELP!

Answer
Generally male gerbils are much nicer to the young. The thing is you need to seperate the males from the females and get the male gerbil out of there because they will continue to reproduce and she can have bigger litters. The male tends to help out with the female gerbil in raising the pups. :-) You can remove him though so she won't have anymore litters.   :-). Congrats on your babies though. Do you have anymore questions i'll be happy to help.  :-)
