paper roll for hamster?

We just got a hamster (baby I'm told) as a gift. Can we put a toilet paper roll in there for him to play with (I'm assuming he'll chew it)?

It looks like he took the food (rectangular food pellets) out of the food bowl and uses the bowl for urinating. Where do hamsters usually urinate/defecate?

At what age can I give regular hamster food like seeds?

Toilet paper rolls make excelent play things for hamsters. They have the option to chew it, or just hide in it. Hamsters usualy chose one place in thier cage to use as a toilet. If your hamster is using the food bowl, try moving it to a different area of the cage, or out of a corner, since hamsters usualy use corners.
