How long till the nowborns develop?

Question
Can you give me a quick list of how long it usualy takes for baby chinese dwarf hamsters to develop certian things? And while their developing what should I feed the babies and the mother? And one more thing, sometimes the mother is getting, so it seems irritated by them feeding once in a long while and begins to scratch at the floor and pushes them off and runs around the cage a couple times and returns is this normal? She is a single mother though and im scared she might die because she has no mate to bring her food and i usauly have to use her munchie sticks to pick up the babies and put them back in the nest. Should I continue this or stop?Information would be great! Thank you!

Answer
Hello. I am happy your hamster has babies. The pups will have hair on the bodies after about 7 days. At about 10 days old they can be handled and will start to wander the cage. Around day 15 the pups eyes will begin to open Around day 18 their ears will start to open as well. Generally around 26 days the hamsters are weaned from mom. You don't really have to feed the babies a special diet. Regular hamster food along with some fresh fruit or veggies will help out. Keep the water bottle and food close to them. She doesn't need a male dwarf hamster to help out. Generally they eat the babies. Also, the best thing to do is really just leave the mom alone and let her handle her pups. She knows what's best for them and for her. :-) Try not to worry. Some may not live and some may live. That is just a natural process that happens to make sure that enough food is available to go around to all the pups and to make sure they are well fed. Don't be afraid or worry too much. :-) Even though i will say it you will still worry. Mommy knows what's best for her litter and she will do what comes natural to her. :) If you are worried you can give her some kitten formula milk to help gain weight. :-) Good luck and keep me posted.
