My friends hamster is sick

My friend's pet hamster is apparently sick. His 4 paws are turning black and he can hardly walk. Also he can't get into the wheel anymore.

hi georgina,

im not sure exactly what the cause is of this but it definately sounds as though your friends hamster has gangrene of some sort, which means his paws are dying or dead. these kind of diseases spread throughout the whole body. its is most liely that the hamster is in alot of pain and doesnt have much of a way of life anymore. id take him to the vets, who will probably suggest putting him down unfortunately as the only cure for this kind of illness is to amputate the infected area which are his paws. meaning he wouldnt be able to walk at all.

its unlikely but you just might be able to get antibiotics of some. though i doubt it.

it is probably the kindest thing to have him put to sleep as he is in alot of pain and cant move anymore. im sorry to hear of this and id like to know how your friends gets on so please keep in touch. thanks again for your question and best of luck.
