Syrian Hamster cuts

Question
Hi, I have a syrian hamster. We usually keep him in a massive Rotastak complex, but we recently put him in a traditional wire cage. He has been constantly knawing at the bars and has cut the side of his face near his mouth where he has been knawing. He is back in the Rotastak now, and doesnt appear to be in any discomfort, but as it raw and looks sore what is the best way to treat him? Is there a danger of it becoming infected?

Answer

There really isn't any specific way to treat him. Since it is on his mouth it is hard to treat, because you don't want to get anything in his mouth. I would just try cleaning it with warm water, maybe with a little bit of salt in it.
