hamsters and dwarf hamsters

i have a female dwarf hamster and a male albino dwarf hamster, and they have been isolating themselves in their little house lately. I sometimes think that they are trying to mate, but most of the time they fight each other and the male looks like he is becoming hairless around the tail, should i seperate them or whats going on?

    Generally dwarf hamsters can live together without much problems. But occasionally some dwarf hamsters will fight a lot.  In this case, I would suggest separating them before one or both get seriously hurt.
