Hamster trying to escape????

21 11:10:46

Question
I bought my 2 Roborovski hamsters home today and one one them keeps running up and down the side of the cage frantically scratching away with her little claws. Is she trying to escape? Is she unhappy with her surroundings? Is there anything I can do? Her sister seems much more chilled out and content.

Answer
Dear dee,
thank you for your question.
Can you describe your cage or attach a photo? She might be bored or scared because the cage is too empty and trying to find a way out. Scratching the glass may also develope into digging in the corners and once a stereotypical behaviour like that has developed, it's really hard to get rid of. Offer her lots of things to explore, like cardboard tubes and boxes, crumpled up paper, scatter the food in the bedding ect. to keep her entertained.
I hope I was of some help to you
